Full course description
Support young children’s language and literacy skills, increase school readiness, and strengthen partnerships between families and childcare providers! This course is intended for anyone supporting children five and under, including registered and unregistered providers, babysitters, parents, and grandparents.
In this evidence-based course, participants will learn:
- How to build a literacy-rich environment.
- How to use child interests to increase early literacy skills.
- How to use responsive teaching to increase early literacy skills.
- How to increase and enrich children’s engagement in everyday literacy activities.
- How communication supports social and emotional development.
- How to strengthen and support partnerships between childcare providers and families.
NOTE! This hybrid course has two portions: an online, self-paced portion through Canvas AND a live, in-person session through Zoom. The self-paced portion should be completed before the live online session via Zoom on March 22, 2025, from 8 am to 11 am MT.
Things to know about this course:
- The self-paced Canvas portion should be completed before the live Zoom session.
- All participants will receive an email with the Zoom link before the Zoom portion of the course.
- Those who successfully complete the course will receive a CECH/completion certificate for six hours. In addition, South Dakota residents are eligible to receive a $100.00 stipend. Providers who attend with a family member of a child they support will receive an additional $25.00.
