Course Description

"ED 492/ED 592 - TIE Conference 24" is a dynamic 1-credit course offered by Dakota State University that provides educators the opportunity to enrich their teaching and learning practices through participation in the 2024 TIE Conference. Scheduled for Spring 2024, this hybrid course combines the immersive experience of attending South Dakota's premier education event with reflective online assignments via Canvas. Participants will explore over 100 breakout sessions, keynotes, and networking opportunities, focusing on identifying and implementing key educational strategies into their own classrooms. Whether attending for one or both days, educators will develop actionable plans and engage in peer discussions to translate conference insights into real-world outcomes. This course promises a transformative professional development experience, fostering both personal growth and educational innovation.

Conference Attendance Required

To participate in this course, at least one day of conference attendance at the TIE Conference 2024 is required. More information on the conference can be found here: http://tieconference.net/. Please register for the conference before enrolling in this course.

Course Goals

  1. Analyze and evaluate conference sessions to identify 3-5 key ideas or strategies that could be implemented to improve teaching practice and student learning outcomes.
  2. Create a detailed implementation plan outlining the key ideas chosen, required resources, a timeline for rollout, and how effectiveness will be measured.
  3. Reflect critically on the conference experience, key takeaways, and the potential impact on professional growth and student achievement.

After completing this course, you can obtain 15 CECH, 1 graduate credit or 1 undergraduate credit. Credits typically cost an additional small charge to the university for both members and non-members. CECH/CEUs are free of charge and can be obtained instantly upon completing all requirements.
