Course Description
This comprehensive explicit instruction course is designed to move educators from theoretical understanding to confident classroom implementation of research-based teaching practices. Built around Dr. Anita Archer's framework and supported by John Hattie's meta-analyses showing strong effect sizes for explicit teaching methods, the course systematically guides participants through five core modules: understanding the foundations and research base of explicit instruction, designing structured lessons using the gradual release model, implementing active engagement strategies through the ROAST framework, mastering systematic monitoring and feedback techniques, and creating purposeful practice that incorporates retrieval and spaced practice principles. Through hands-on activities, video demonstrations, reflection exercises, and practical lesson planning, participants will learn to apply the 13 essential elements of explicit instruction while understanding when to use teacher-directed versus discovery-based approaches. The course emphasizes behavioral change through scenario-based learning and automated assessments, ensuring educators can confidently implement these evidence-based strategies to improve student learning outcomes across all content areas and grade levels.RetryBL
