Course Description

If you are an instructional coach, a learning specialist, a program or grants coordinator, or a consultant to schools, most of your results depend on people who do not report to you. You run meetings you did not call, support initiatives you do not control, and keep projects moving with teachers, principals, and directors who all have other priorities. Very few people in these roles were ever taught how to do that part of the job.

This course from Compass Partners in Learning gives you a small set of practices you can use the same week. In the first module, you will plan a real working session: sorting out the roles in the room, writing an agenda that tells people what is being asked of them, stating how a decision will be made, and following through on commitments afterward. In the second module, you will draft a working agreement for a real collaboration, plan who needs to know what, and prepare for a conversation about something that is not working. Each module also includes an optional page on using AI tools such as ChatGPT Edu or Copilot for this kind of work. You will finish with a one-page session plan and a one-page working agreement built around your own situation.

This course pairs well with Mastering Outlook for Education Professionals and Funding & Project Management for Education Professionals. Those two cover your own systems and the plan for the work. This one covers how people work together.

Course Goals

  • Design a working session that moves a group you do not supervise to a clear decision and documented commitments
  • Create a working agreement and communication plan for a collaboration in which you hold no formal authority, including how you will handle feedback and disagreement
