Course Description

"Monitoring & Managing Behaviors" is a comprehensive course that equips paraprofessionals with the knowledge, skills, and strategies necessary to effectively support students in maintaining positive behaviors and creating a conducive learning environment. The course begins with an engaging narrative that emphasizes the importance of understanding the underlying causes of student behaviors and how our mindset about these behaviors can impact our approach and effectiveness in managing them. Through a series of informative BHSSC-created videos, reflective exercises, and assessments, participants will explore the various reasons why behaviors occur and develop a compassionate and proactive mindset toward addressing them. The course delves into environmental strategies, teaching paraprofessionals how to create a classroom setting that promotes positive behaviors and minimizes potential triggers. Participants will also learn and practice a range of proactive behavior strategies, including setting clear expectations, providing positive reinforcement, and implementing effective communication techniques. By the end of the course, paraprofessionals will possess a robust toolkit of strategies for monitoring and managing student behaviors, enabling them to foster a positive, supportive, and inclusive classroom environment that promotes student success.
