Course Description

"Student Engagement" is a transformative course that empowers paraprofessionals to move beyond mere compliance and create a classroom environment that truly captivates and inspires students. The course begins with a thought-provoking narrative that emphasizes the crucial role of positive relationships in fostering emotional and intellectual engagement among students. Through a series of engaging BHSSC-created videos, reflective exercises, and assessments, participants will unpack the importance and benefits of building strong, supportive connections with students as the foundation for meaningful learning experiences. The course explores a wide range of strategies and techniques designed to motivate, encourage, excite, and promote even the most reluctant learners. Paraprofessionals will learn how to tap into students' interests, create inclusive and participatory classroom activities, and provide individualized support that celebrates each student's unique strengths and potential. By the end of the course, participants will possess a robust toolkit of approaches for fostering student engagement, enabling them to create a dynamic, student-centered learning environment that ignites a passion for learning and promotes academic and personal growth.
