Course Description
"Supporting Math Instruction" is an essential course that equips paraprofessionals with the knowledge and understanding necessary to effectively support students in their mathematical learning journey. The course begins with an engaging narrative that highlights the significance of math education and its impact on students' academic and personal lives. Through a series of informative BHSSC-created videos, reflective exercises, and assessments, participants will gain a deep understanding of the reasons behind teaching math and the critical role it plays in developing problem-solving skills and logical thinking. The course emphasizes the importance of math fluency, exploring strategies to help students build a strong foundation in basic math skills and develop automaticity. Participants will also learn about the power of student questioning and how to foster an environment that encourages curiosity, exploration, and confidence in math. By the end of the course, paraprofessionals will possess a solid understanding of math instruction principles and feel empowered to support students in developing a love for math and a strong sense of mathematical proficiency.
