Course Description
This is a reflective course that provides educators the opportunity to enrich their teaching and learning practices through participation in the 2025 TIE Conference. Scheduled for Spring 2025, this hybrid course combines the immersive experience of attending South Dakota's premier education event with reflective online assignments via Canvas. Through USD's EDFN 595: Topics course, participants can earn 1-3 graduate credits while exploring over 100 breakout sessions, keynotes, and networking opportunities. The course focuses on identifying and implementing key educational strategies in participants' classrooms while providing multiple pathways for professional growth through conference participation, implementation projects, and the Innovation Exchange.
Conference Attendance Required
To participate in this course and earn graduate credit, full attendance at both days of the TIE Conference 2025 (April 28-29) is required. More information on the conference can be found here: http://tieconference.net/. Please register for the conference before enrolling in this course.
Course Goals
- Analyze and evaluate conference sessions to identify 3-5 key ideas or strategies that could be implemented to improve teaching practice and student learning outcomes.
- Create a detailed implementation plan outlining the key ideas chosen, required resources, a timeline for rollout, and how effectiveness will be measured.
- Reflect critically on the conference experience, key takeaways, and the potential impact on professional growth and student achievement.
- Develop and deliver professional development content or participate in the Innovation Exchange (for additional credits).
- Conduct action research on implemented strategies (for 3-credit option).
Estimated Time: 15-45 Hours (Based on Credit Option)
- 1 Credit: 15 hours (conference attendance and basic reflection)
- 2 Credits: 30 hours (additional implementation project or presentation)
- 3 Credits: 45 hours (extended action research project)

Graduate Credit Information
